TDI Deco Class -   2002/05/06 | Viewed 66 times this month, last update: 2002/05/06

| Today I'm heading out to Vegas for the weekend with
Chris Bell to take an advanced diving class. When I'm
done, I'll be able to dive to 150 feet (20 more than I can now) and I'll be able to stay
down past my "no decompression limits", which mean I can stay deeper longer.
I'm really excited about this, as it is my first real step into "tech" diving, meaning
diving beyond the limits of traditional "sport" diving. Chris and I are meeting a TDI
instructor in Boulder City (next to Lake Meade), and while I'm learning the class,
he'll be learning to teach it!
This class will teach decompression techniques, breathing air, and nitrox (air with more
oxygen than normal). My next step will probably be decompression with trimix, which is
air with some of the nitrogen replaced with helium, and possibly some oxygen removed.
Then, rebreathers!
Adendum:
All done. We did six dives over two days. Lots of hauling 100lb gear setups
arround, suiting-up, packing, unpacking. I am still very tired. But, both Chris
and I are certified TDI Advanced Nitrox and Decompression divers, and he is an
instructor. Yeay! 150 feet, pretty much as long as we want. Sweet!
Sorry, no pictures. Lake Mead was very nice, sweet (not salty) water, 40'
visability, and 64 degrees. Comfy warm in my dry suit.

Comments:
Matt Bell (2002-05-06): So, have you been converted to the church of DIR?
Erik (2002-05-06): Somewhat. I really need to step-up my gear do do this right.
Slates, doubles, manifold extension, sling-bottles, another
regulator, an oxygen analyser, probably a new BCD, another
mask/snorkel, a reel or two, and a lift bag or two. Ugh!
Matt Bell (2002-05-06): Don't forget the sherpa to carry it all and the crane to lower it into the water...
Regina (2002-05-07): Congratulations to you both :) Whew! I got tired just reading about it. Lots of work, but worth it I'm sure - Pretty cool stuff man!
Erik (2002-05-07): Thanks!
